The Study On The Establishment And Development Of The Tianjin Public Library In The Late Qing Dynasty

The vocabulary of public library is introduced into our country with the development of modern China and the continuously learning from the West by modern China, it refers to the type of library which is open to the public, which is funded by the government or the social organization. In today’s world, the development of science and technology is changing with each passing day, and the updating speed of people’s knowledge structure is accelerating, which requires people to keep up with the pace of the development of the times. But for most people, back to school to pursue advanced studies has some unrealistic, and public library can let these people use leisure time reading and learning, improve their own level of knowledge. As an effort to build the charm of the humanities and harmonious and happy city of Tianjin, the development of a good public library will help to enhance the overall cultural literacy of the people of Tianjin, and further enrich the lives of amateur cultural. So it is necessary to sort out and study the development of Public Library in Tianjin in modern times, and to provide some experience for the development of Public Library in Tianjin.This paper selects in 1908 to Anti Japanese war in 1937 before the outbreak of the time for clues to study on the establishment and development of the late Qing Dynasty Tianjin public library. For the establishment of the Nanjing National Government as a dividing line, the library was established in 1908 for the general public to provide a platform for the use of spare time reading, opened the prelude to the development of the public library in Tianjin.; after 1928 with support of the national government and the Tianjin municipal government to the public library, Tianjin have been opened seven popular library and a municipal library. Before the outbreak of the war of resistance against Japan, the public library to the diversified and effective propaganda, good environment and rich content of social education activities, attract the general public to the museum to learn to read, for the dissemination of scientific and cultural knowledge, enlighten the people made its own contribution. But constrained by the time limitations, the development of Public Library in Tianjin also exist the museum catalogue classification are not unified and librarians lack of professionalism and other problems. Through this paper can make people understand in the late Qing Dynasty and early Republic of China Tianjin Public Librarianship founded and development, to understand its contribution to social progress in Modern Tianjin.
