Based on Nida’s functional equivalence theory and the translation of 2014-2017 National Strategy for the National Network of Fusion Centers, this thesis is aimed at dealing with the specific methods of translating English government documents into Chinese. The thesis is composed of five parts. The first part specifies that the object of this thesis is the government documents, and then illustrates the research background as well as research significance. The second part gives a brief introduction to Nida’s functional equivalence theory and summarizes the translation principles based on functional equivalence theory. The third part analyzes the linguistic features of government documents in terms of lexicon, sentences and discourse. Taking the government document 2014-2017 National Strategy for the National Network of Fusion Centers as an example, based on the combination of the translation principles of Functional Equivalence with the features of government documents, the fourth part analyzes the application of methods of E-C government documents translation, including annotation, free translation and conversion, etc. The fifth part makes conclusions on the former discussion and gives suggestions about government documents translation.
