This is a translation report on the translation of chapter 7 and chapter 8 from Australian historian Bill Gammage’s book The Biggest Estate on Earth:How Aborigines Made Australia. The book mainly focuses on how aborigines in Australia managed the land by using fire. The report firstly introduces the translation project and gives a brief introduction to the original work and its author, then analyzes the problems and lists several methods in the process of translation, before finally concluding the translation project. The third chapter plays a pivotal role in the report. It focuses on the translation of source text with examples in the aspects of words, sentences and discourse. For instance, method of meaning extension is adopted for the translation of proper nouns; conversion is applied for the translation of English passive sentences; for long English sentences, method of reinventing structures is applied; for discourse, amplification is needed to avoid the omission of English in source text. The final version could provide a further reference for both translators and readers who are interested in Australia aborigines.
