A Brief Analysis On Pottery Decoration Technology Of Kuahuqiao Site And Hemudu Site

To Analysis the pottery decoration techniques, this paper chooses the pottery (piece) specimen from the Kuahuqiao and Hemudu site as the study object. This thesis is divided into four parts in structure.In the first part, I try to figure out the academic history of the study of chinese prehistoric pottery, from the pottery making craft, pottery technology archaeology, and the traditional pottery ethnology investigation. Secondly, I summarized the research of the Kuahuqiao and Hemudu site.The second and third part is the main part of this article. I analysed the pottery decorative craft of the Kuahuqiao and Hemudu site in the pottery decorative craft, decorative pattern, decorative pattern and the meaning of the relationship. What’s more, this paper introduces the stages of the sites, environmental characteristics, the economic production of our ancestors, and the ceramic color, the device type and the making process of the pottery unearthed.In terms of the decoration technology, this paper focuses on the methods and the position of pottery decoration, and pays attention to the changes of the site. The level and style of pottery decoration in the Kuahuqiao site from one to three is generally stable. The decoration technology of printing, rolling, scratching in the first phase has been basically mature. In the early time, the color of the painting is mainly thin and red, then change to thick and white. The pottery coating in the first stage has appeared gray, red, black three categories, after the second stage, the division of the various types of pottery clothing is more obvious, surface treatment is also more detailed, the shiny black pottery decorated clothes highlights its advanced nature. The craft of embossed decoration and hollowing has been a very good development. The pottery decoration of the Hemudu site becoming more and more simple, and the superfluous levels change significantly.Decorative patterns that focus on analyze the types of patterns, characteristics, sooner or later evolution and putting parts. Decorative patterns of Kuahuqiao’s pottery mainly have cord pattern, geometric pattern, radiation pattern, as well as a small number of sun lines, flame lines, " 田 " word pattern. There is no obvious transformation in cord pattern from phase one to phase three, which generally decorate cooking vessels like cauldron and retort. It’s Clear and coherent, the most representative one is the grid cross rope pattern. Geometric patterns is simple what can be decomposed to string lines, bands, polygonal lines, vertical hanging lines, cross pattern, X pattern, puncta and so on. Radioactive grain is only applied to ring foot and Dou’s handle. Applying process is metabolic from the first phase to third phase. The sun pattern, flame pattern, "田" word pattern appear at the second period, which are decorated in the outer wall of the tank, that’s quantity is small, but it’s very representative. Decoration of cord pattern is weak which mainly applied to cooking vessels like cauldron and retort. Geometric patterns can be divided into some small basic patterns like string pattern, shellfish of tooth profile, grain lines, diagonal lines, vertical lines, short transverse, circle pattern, puncta, wave patterns and so on, that mainly decorate on visible position of objects. The decorative laminated style is overelaborated in the first period, and then that becomes simpler and simpler. Plant lines, animal lines, vortex lines mainly descript the natural and agricultural life, these figures especially in the first phase are abundant and vivid.The relationship between decoration and shapes mainly aim at discussion of regular contact, such as the relationship between cord pattern and cooking vessels, that’s obvious in Kuahuqiao Site and Hmudu Site. Pottery decoration in Kuahuqiao Site is highly targeted, that has a better behavior at the use of ceramic clothing, and applying of thick or thin painting, Caihui applied were better reflected, relatively speaking, Hemudu Site ruins of pottery decoration for the weaker, relatively speaking, the pottery decoration in Hemudu Site is shortly targeted.Decorative patterns of meaning mainly disclose the content on the spiritual level. This paper will propose basing on sun worship early worship including star and moon that radiating the ray, through the analysis of the evolution of the radiation pattern in Kuahuqiao Site, later the main trend is to radiate light, hot sun, at same time, this paper think red is also one decoration that ancestors worship. There is a rich decorative patterns in Hemudu Site, except for description of natural life, multicycle lines and abstract bird lines also reflects the some kind of primitive worship. The paper support that point named "multicycle patterns is ’egg’", and also think that gradually evolved symbol what is a sign of life, breeding, hatching, breeding, all of these reflect on worshipping to life. Bird worship and the worship of life is one of the themes of the pottery pattern of Hemudu Site.The fourth part, according to the affinity in geographical location ofthe Kuahuqiao Site and Hemudu Site, there is a simple comparison between the third period of Kuahuqiao Site and the first period of Hemudu Site from the angle of the decorating. The conclusion is that there is a significant difference between "mature" and "immature",and Kuahuqiao Site has little effect on Hemudu Site, and the relationship between the two is to make some analysis. Then the paper tries to make some analysis on the relationship between the two sites.The research of pottery decoration in Kuahuqiao Site and Hemudu Site will open a new window for a deeply understanding of the characteristic culture of Ning Shao Plain.
