Bi Feiyu is an outstanding writer in contemporary Chinese literature, who is obsessed with philosophic thinking about history. During his 20 years’ writing career, the memory of Cultural Revolution has been presented in his works in an explicit or implicit way. With the publication of his works:Wang Village on the World and Three Sisters and Plains, which are under the background of Cultural Revolution, the memory of Cultural Revolution in his novels is getting more plentiful and solid. The inspiration of childhood experiences, the influence of literary trends as well as the mature ideas of writing are the three main driving forces of his Cultural Revolution writing. In his works of Cultural Revolution, in order to reflect the harm to ordinary people caused by Cultural Revolution which had been penetrating into daily life, he does not record the Cultural Revolution from a purely political level but from the ideological level, which is different from the mainstream narrative of Cultural Revolution and the Pioneer Literature. Bi Feiyu’s works of Cultural Revolution are retrospective to rural experiences and people’s everyday life, which echo the Chinese modern rustic novels and inherit the narrative technique of the novels about human relationships represented by The Plum in the Golden Vase, and they also break through the mainstream narrative mode of Cultural Revolution since the New Era. Bi Feiyu’s works present us with a different kind of Cultural Revolution memory and they also provide valuable writing experience for contemporary Chinese literature.
