This thesis made an analogical study on Chinese classical gardens and traditional Chinese landscape paintings in order to summarize the relationships between the former and the latters’ artistic conception. It systematically analysized the relationships between Chinese classical gardens and Chinese landscape paintings, elaborating on the origins and development of the two from two aspects of the influence of traditional Chinese landscape paintings on Chinese classical gardens and the creation of Chinese classical gardens’ artistic conception. Through studying their common points of artistic creation such as seeking an mixture of feeling and scenery, valuing implicit and natural beauty, combining the virtuality and the reality, demonstrating the big from the small, selecting the materials and their different points such as the conditions of finishing the works, spatial and visual effects, time, ways of aesthetic feeling and experiencing, this thesis revealed their spiritual identity and showed their common seek of ideal state in creation, thus they both embodied the same origin of Chinese culture and its openness,tolerance, wildness and great integration.The origins and development of traditional Chinese landscape paintings provide strong theoretical foundations for the construction of Chinese classical gardens and the latter in some sense are the materialization of the former. They mutually affected mixed and complemented during thousands of years of development. In each dynasty scholars and painters designed or took part in the construction of gardens, blending their aesthetic thoughts into those processes. Their seek for poetic and pictorial splendor gradually became the guiding thought in garden construction since the Tang and Song dynasties. Influenced by this thought, the landscape- paintings styled art of eastern garden with Chinese characteristics were formed. Traditional Chinese landscape paintings joined the formation of garden sceneries and expanded the connotation and denotation of gardens’ artistic conception. The of Chinese garden constructions and paintings have the same theoretical origin and sharing the same ways and principles in aesthetic appreciation,laws of creation and function requirements.Although diverse in ways of manifestation, Chinese classical gardens and traditional Chinese landscape paintings have identical laws of forming artistic conception, which is the feature, connotation and core of Chinese classical gardens. The two have some connections in the creation of artistic conception and have similar elements, such as setting the idea, arranging the virtuality and the reality, placing the mountains and the rocks as well as the plants.This thesis analyzed the ways of creating Chinese classical gardens’ artistic conception and the influence of landscape paintings and Chinese classical gardens’ artistic conception on the design of modern garden sceneries. By studying the relationships between Chinese classical gardens and traditional Chinese landscape paintings, it aims to reexamine the application of traditional culture to the design of modern garden with the hope of enlightening modern designers to understand traditional language and ways of thinking. |
