A Seletive Identification Of New-Found Bronze Drums In Recent 40 Years

Bronze drums which consist of a round foot, a curved waist,4 ears in sides, a arcwise-convex chest, a flat face are special percussion instruments in this paper. Bronze drums are treasures of ethnic arts which have a long history, a wide region of use, numerous ethnic groups, various types, complex molding processes, beautiful decoration, wide usage in southern china and Southeast Asia. Records about bronze drums such as history books, poetry, rhetoric, folk tales tell a lot of Anecdotes. Because of the unique character ordinary people and upper class searched for and cherished bronze drums for a long time in history. In the period of Emperor Qianlong of Qing Dynasty the appearance of Xiqing Ancient Identification and Xiqing Continued Identification about identification of bronze drums marked the ruler’s attention. In modern at home and abroad books such as Ancient Metal Drums of Southeast Asia Written by Hagel from Austria and Brief Explanation Of Bronze Brum written by Zheng Shixu marked the beginning of ordinary people’research of bronze drums.Bronze drums studied in this paper were mainly discovered in recent 40 years. The reasons are chiefly as follows.Firstly, following the attention which have been paid to culture work of archaeological excavation and protection of cultural relics were great improved, preservation and research of bronze drums were great improved. Secondly, there are thousands of bronze drums, if we analyzed these one by one, it will be heavy work. Thirdly, because of twice discussion and five times international symposium of bronze drums the lineage is clear. This paper chooses bronze drums discovered in recent 40 years for the purpose of validating and further developing this lineage. Last, encyclopedia of bronze drums namely Data Collection Of Measurement And Record Of Chinese Ancient Bronze Drums dates back to 1980s.Chapter one is the introduction. Firstly, it points out the reason that this paper is based on the unique and typical material. Secondly, it points out the purpose that this chapter briefly analyzes the newly discovered bronze drums at home and abroad for further developing the lineage of bronze drums. Thirdly, it points out the research method that I have read, analyze, summary the material of monographs, Archaeological reports, catalogue,these and at the same time I have paid field visits to museums, archaeological institute, art gallery and so on.Chapter two is a brief of research history. Firstly, it briefly introduces the discoveries and research in history and those in recent 40 years. Secondly, it analyzes casting of bronze drums. This chapter specially introduces in one section about casting and processing of bronze drums in recent 40 years for research of casting and imitation of beautiful, useful, durable bronze drums in future.Chapter three is the identification of Yunnan-Guangxi type namely west type which includes five types. This chapter compares two or three bronze drums each type or stage of this type discovered in recent 40 years to the standard by the means of traditional standard drums for determining the type, shape, ornamentation, year, usage, nationality, the source of mineral aggregate, casting of each drum. On the base of the above aspects this chapter conclude commonness of these drum. On the basis of previous studies, in the end this chapter further make clear evolution law and developmental lineage of Yunnan-Guangxi type.Chapter four is the identification of Guangdong-Guangxi type namely east type which includes three types. This chapter compares two or three bronze drums each type or stage of Yunnan-Guangxi type discovered in recent 40 years to the standard ones by the same method sand aspects in the third chapter. On the basis of previous studies, in the end this chapter further make clear evolution law and developmental lineage of Guangdong-Guangxi type.Chapter five is the comparation of Yunnan-Guangxi and Guangdong-Guangxi type. On the base of above four chapters, this chapter mainly compares two types in aspects of shape, decoration, usage, distribution, evolution, source of mineral, casting, nationality, usage for further analyzing relation of Yunnan-Guangxi type and Guangdong-Guangxi type.Chapter six is the conclusion. Firstly, On the base of the five chapters this chapter makes a conclusion about the evolution of shape, ornamentation, usage, casting,which will have an important effect on identification of bronze drums. Secondly, it points out the regret of this paper, such as lack of field trips and lack of breakthrough ideas.At the end of this paper eight tables which include new-found time, new-found sites, collection units, sizes, features simply register eight styles of new-found bronze drums in recent 40 years.
