This report is based on the author’s translation practice of Building System of Innovation: Three Phases and Three Cases, chapter five of Building National and Regional Innovation Systems. In this report Eugene A. Nida’s theory of Functional Equivalence is employed to analyze the translation. This theory points out the way for translation at the macro level, providing a theoretical basis for translators to adopt different strategies accordingly. This report consists of five chapters. The first chapter is the task description, in which this translation task and the source text are introduced. The second chapter is about the translation process, mainly including pre-translation preparation, translation process, and difficulties that occurred in the translation. The third chapter introduces briefly Eugene A.Nida’s theory of Functional Equivalence and expounds its practice value. The fourth chapter, the main body of the report, is case analysis. In this part, the author mainly analyzes some typical cases at lexical, syntactical, and textual level to illustrate how she completes her translation task under the guidance of Functional Equivalence. The last chapter is conclusion in which the author summarizes the gains and losses in the practice.
