Before Yan’s force entered Liaoxi, ancient nationalities and states, including ancient Yan people, Guzhu, Shanrong, Donghu, Yu people, Tuhe, Sushen and Yuyi, were distributed around Liaoxi region. Their social economy was a mixed economy centering on animal husbandry and combining fishing and hunting with agriculture. Bronze casting is the most developed handicraft industry and reached a relatively high level in casting technique. Textile industry made some progress too. All these laid a material foundation for the development of Liaoxi region in the Yan, Qin, and Han Dynasties.Liaoxi region in the Yan, Qin, and Han Dynasties is border areas newly exploited by Central Plains Regime through military means. Qin Kai, general of the Yan Dynasty, destroyed Donghu, then Qin wiped out Yan forces and consolidated and unified power. Finally Han established the rule over Liaoxi region by defeating separatist forces and practicing “Jimi” policy for minorities. To ensure a permanent rule, the Central Plains Regime took a set of measures to manage Liaoxi region: setting Beiping County and Liaoxi County, building the Great Wall in frontiers, and improving transportation network; establishing specialized institutions to govern minorities, migration to borders, and popularizing the culture of Central Plains. With vigorous exploration and diligent management of Central Plains Regime, Liaoxi region developed significantly, where development level of agriculture was embodied by the improvement of iron and farm tools and popularizing of iron plough and so on, and handicrafts such as iron making and bronze making made remarkable results. Advances in agriculture and progresses in handicrafts provided the conditions for the flourish of commercial activities centering on cities, while in turn, the commercial development and urban prosperity promoted the thriving of agriculture, handicrafts, and animal husbandry economy, and each economic sectors promoted each other and achieved mutual development. Meanwhile, there were frequent exchanges of goods, culture, and people between nationalities, leading to an increasingly deepened national fusion.
