Herman Hesse is an excellent writer,who won the Nobel Prize in 1946. The literary of the Song of a Wander, published in 1922,embody the topic of the pursuit of theme. The literary is said that siddhartha tries to seek and improve self determination, realized the value of self growth in the pursuit of self. Hesse received the Oriental culture influenced by parents and grandfather.He faced with the crisis of cultural identity in first world war and began to pursue to the Oriental culture. The topic of the pursuit of theme embodies the black plug of poetic survival philosophy, speculative philosophy significance in order to find himself and enlighten others. The siddhartha to seek individual pursuit of reason and sensibility, finite and infinite, eventually rise to the pursuit of the Oriental culture.The paper has three parts including introduction, text and epilogue. The introduction part mainly introduced the selected topic significance, theoretical basis of this paper, the domestic and introduced the selected topic significance, theoretical basis of this paper, the domestic and foreign literature review and the innovation place. The second part is divided into three chapters: the first chapter mainly through close reading, the method of using Freud’s psychoanalysis, namely: ego, self and superego theory to research the dervish.The second chapter mainly analyzes the image connotation and philosophical connotation of the novel, the image analysis of the water, the interpretation of dreams and the representative of "Buddha" in the perspective of symbolic studies to express the pursuit of the theme. The third chapter mainly analysis according to the creation background of the novel, by contacting Hesse’s personal experiences and ideas to study the identity dilemma. In the face of western spiritual crisis, Hesse began to study and draw lessons from different Oriental culture with western values, seek the source of wisdom from the eastern culture. The third part is the conclusion part, to explain the exploration on the issue of individuals with Hesse to the pursuit of Oriental culture, to summary and deepen the text.
