Along with the continuous increase between international academic communications and the deepening status for English being an international language, more and more Chinese scholars choose English to write academic dissertation. Except content assigned, there is another kind of language in academic discourse, which can not only help writers convey information, indicate attitude, organize structure, and also promote interaction between authors and readers. Metadiscourse is the discourse about discourse.Based on the comparative analysis of two groups of English academic texts in economic field written by native C hinese scholars and native English scholars, the study explores the differences and similarities of metadiscourse use in two kinds of academic texts. The research mainly answers two questions, one is the differences and similarities of metadiscourse use in two kinds of academic texts in economic field, and the other one is the possible cause leading to this phenomenon. With categories of metadiscouse by Hyland being the theoretical model and economic periodical dissertation being the data, the study conducts the research combining the ways of qualitative and quantitative analysis. The study aims to help Chinese writers deepen the understanding of the effect of metadiscouse in academic texts, and further clearly differentiate metadiscourse use between themselves and native English scholars. The innovation of the study lies in the innovativeness and pertinence of the selection of the data. At last, according to the research findings, the study provides some advice on the teaching of metadiscourse in writing class academic texts, indicates the weakness in the research and propose the suggestion for future research.
