Task-based Language Teaching, which is developed from Communicative Language Teaching, started in the 1980s. Task-based Language Teaching emphasizes on designing real life tasks and students acquire English skills by completing the tasks. So it will help students practice from learning and acquire knowledge from doing tasks. Many scholars at home and abroad did a lot of researches about applying Task-based Approach on English teaching. However, most of the teachers use this approach in college English teaching to improve college students’reading or oral competence. For the vocational college students whose English are not so good and English learning initiatives are not so high, it is uncertain whether this approach is effective to them. So the author is going to find answers. In this research, the author aims to explore whether Task-based Language Teaching can facilitate vocational college students’English learning initiative. The author chooses 2 classes (Class Numerical Control 1431 and Class Numerical Control 1432) from Guangxi Vocational and Technical Institute of Industry as subjects. From March 2015 to July 2015, the author uses Task-based Language Teaching as guidance, adopting "student-centered" teaching mode in the experimental class; while in the control class, the author applies traditional Grammar-translation Language Teaching to teach English. Both quantitative and qualitative studies are used in this research. In the research, the author puts questionnaire, interviews, class observations and exams into use. SPSS 19.0 is used to analyze the data of the questionnaire and the exams. The major findings of this research show that:(1) After a semester of experiment, the students of the experimental class are satisfied with the English teaching mode - Task-based Language Teaching. (2) Task-based Approach can facilitate students’English learning initiative. (3) Task-based Language Teaching is beneficial to the progress of students’English scores, but it needs more time and tests to make the experiment effect more significant.
