The Cultural Mentality And Literary Writing Of The Literati In The Late Qing Dynasty

The late Qing Dynasty was the important historical period that Chinese society changed from traditional to modern, and also that the literature. The Chinese traditional culture which had long adhere to the thought of Confucianism as the main body suffered unprecedented crisis because of the political and social changes and the infiltration of culture of the west. And the literature also finally occurred new change with the "Statecraft" culture, language change and Enlightenment requirement. The scholars as the main body of literature creation faced to the change of the survival condition and the cultural mentality in the process of growing to be the new intellectuals.From a longitudinal perspective, the cultural mentality of the scholars in the late Qing Dynasty after all through the anxiety and anger in the beginning of the strong intervention of western culture, the nostalgia and resist in Chinese and Western culture collision, and the facing and creation in the integration of Chinese and Western culture. Laterally it made the different scholars in the same historical period had different performance of cultural mentality because of the differences in life attitude and choice that the great changes of society and the abolition of the imperial examination system. Changes in the cultural mentality of the scholars reflected in their literary creation activities. Lin Shu stuck to the traditional culture, Liang Qichao broke their barriers and Wang Guowei’s absolutely respect for literature. The scholars of the late Qing Dynasty as them created a new look forward to the literature in the late Qing Dynasty: One road along the path of the reality of social history and the other one along the "pure literature" of the road.The transformation of the late Qing Dynasty literature was finally completed in the impact and collision of Chinese and Western culture. And the change of the mentality of scholars and intellectuals in this literature has an important role in the development of literature. They have abolished the differences, accepted and absorbed the western ideology and culture, and at the same time they contributed to the transformation of the literature in the late Qing Dynasty. Therefore, it has great practical value to study the cultural mentality of the scholars in the late Qing Dynasty. It is beneficial for us to understand and understand the literature in the late Qing Dynasty from the perspective of culture. It also can feel and experience the cultural mentality of the contradictions that literati were given by the times in the literature writing of the late Qing Dynasty.
