Study On New Ecological Documentary

On September 4, 2006, Hunan Satellite TV launched a new program----the new ecological documentary named "X-change". Until the end of 2015, it has been broadcast twelve seasons, a total of 50 stories, 200 episodes. When other television documentaries have been unpopular in the audience, it was very hot during the audience, and get both rating and reputation of the proud achievements. As an enduring program, it must have many advantages worth us to explore and purse, but also expose many flaws and shortcomings urgently to be solved. This paper starts from the concept of the new ecological documentary, combining with the scholars’ research on reality shows and documentaries, analyzes the new ecological documentary’s features of “X-change”, explore the innovation as well as existing problems, and summarize its social value and public significance.First of all, define the concept of the new ecological documentary. The new ecological documentary is a relatively unfamiliar term in academia, the scholars have not yet define its concept clearly, and the author can not find a relatively clear concept from the existing books and literature. Due to new ecological documentary is considered to be the combination of "documentary and the reality show" in academia, so I will be based on the definition of the concept of documentary, combining the concept of reality show, and according to my own understanding to define the concept.Secondly, this paper focuses on the new ecological documentary’s features of “X-change” as well as the innovation based on it. “X-change” draws lessons from the successful model of foreign new ecological documentary, fusing the related elements of reality shows and documentaries, using the reality shows’ program planning and creativity as well as documentaries’ real performance and artistic creation to reflect the features of the new ecological documentary. On this basics, the program combined with its actual innovation, abandoned the foreign elements which does not match Chinese situation and actively explore new model belong to China.Finally, summarize its public significance and social value. From the launch date, “X-change” is forming a huge public influence. Mango V foundation, grant of “X-change” and the successful welfare activities are all able to reflect the media’s sense of responsibility and social value of the program.This research suggests that the "X-change" as an example of new ecological documentary, it is an exploration and attempt of the continuous innovation of China’s television documentary. Its appearance has certain significance for the development of China’s television documentary, and also provides a corresponding reference for production and dissemination of the new ecological documentary in the future.
