In the midst and late Ming dynasty, the creation of Chinese drama breakthrough ethical enlightenment, peacefulness, immortal pattern of narrow themes, at the same time a different style formed compared with early Ming dynasty. Whether it is the ideological content and artistic value have reached a very high level. Among them, the satirical dramas which scholars create were particularly prominent. It reflected the current social reality with incisive technique of writing. Not only represents the highest level of the Ming drama, also had a profound effect on later satire. The research of the satirical drama in the midst and late Ming dynasty is supposed to be an important part of our traditional drama development history. However, after experienced the heyday of the Yuan drama and the downturn of the early Ming drama, it entered a transition period, but didn’t receive due attention from the academia, so the study is always weak. This article has defined satirical drama on the basis of previous research, and nail down the study objects. Then explores the ideological content, the art value and causes of the satirical drama in the midst and late Ming dynasty.The ideological content of the satirical drama in the midst and late Ming dynasty is multiple and complex. It satirized almost all aspects of current society, generally in four areas:firstly, the strike to the ruling class; secondly, the revelation of the feudal social ills; thirdly, the challenge of the traditional values; fourthly, the distortion of human nature. Exposed the hypocrisy and extravagance of the ruling class, the darkness in the imperial examination and officialdom, the Buddhist chaos and ugly marketplace from the outside to the inside. It reveals the absurdity of religious abstinence and traditional moral turpitude. Ultimately directed at humanity, mercilessly mocked the greed addicted to money, shameless deed goes unpunished and ugly male style of knot.The value of the satirical drama in the midst and late Ming dynasty not only lies in its ideological content but also its art features. We’ll k about its comic-style characters, clever plot settings, unusual script language and ironical spectacular tricks. The comic-style characters were caused by funny uncoordinated factors and exaggeration absurd distortion. The clever plot settings reflected in its unusual dramatic structure and its strange drama plot. The unusual script language means its language style, poetic coexist with natural. The ironical spectacular tricks respectively probe from the flexible use of exaggerated deformation technique, bold exploration fable spirit and the ingenious arrangement of play within a play.After the Yuan drama was at the top, the satirical drama in the midst and late Ming dynasty finally broke the silence of early Ming dynasty, got its life again. It is necessary to investigate its causes. First of all, Chinese drama has its inherent law of the ironically tradition. Qin opera in the tradition of ironically Comedians performances that is quietly breeding, then it matured in the Yuan dynasty, until further development in the midst and late Ming dynasty. This creates a very deep soil for the birth of satirical drama. Secondly, also the most important, on the one hand, the dark reality of social environment in the midst and late Ming dynasty affect the literati’s aesthetic and creative mentality. On the other hand, the rise of the philosophy of the mind prompts scholars to pursue creative freedom and self emotion expressing.In general, the satirical drama in the midst and late Ming dynasty can not only show that the overall style and features of Ming drama but also reveals the later period of Ming dynasty social reality and living conditions for us. This paper based on the works, understanding from the text details, in order to make up for the deficiencies in previous studies, try as much as possible through my own efforts to do a macroscopically study on the satirical drama in the midst and late Ming dynasty.
