Eugene Ysaye is a great violinist and composer at the beginning of the 20th century. The counterpoint of exquisite, novel harmony and superb performance skills in his six solo violin sonatas are considered to be the following of the Bach’s Sonata for Solo Violin, and a peak in the violin music history. This is the important motive which pushes me to make a detailed analysis of the work. There are only few articles, in CNKI and JOSTOR, about the third sonata in this cycle. This is the another reason for me to study this movement. Therefore, this paper will put forward some opinions in music and its performance on the basis of the exploring the historical background, and analyzing the thematic motif intervals, dynamics, tempos, and form of this sonata. This paper is divided into three chapters. The first chapter mainly elaborates the connections and differences between Bach’s and Ysaye’s Sonata for Solo Violin. The second chapter, respectively, will be an analytical chapter of this paper. The author will give some practical advice of performing this sonata by the analysis in the second chapter and the experience of her practice. The elements will be discussed in the third chapter are physical and psychological dynamics, the techniques in both hands, the characteristic marks of Ysaye himself, and so on.
