This is an English to Chinese translation report on Supercommunicator :Explaining the Complicated in a Digital Age. The introduction and the first three chapters of this book are selected as the source text of this report. The book was written by supercommunicator Frank J. Pietrucha, who is a consultant and trainer. This book is a communication guidebook designed to guide readers on how to communicate complicated topics effectively in digital age. The book reviews the author’s experience as a communicator, describes a variety of new digital tools and its functions, and introduces to readers various communication skills and methods. Mainly drawing on the theoretical basis of Catfort’s Theory of Translation Shifts, this report analyzes some typical translations of phrases and sentences and then discusses the flexible translation between grammar level and lexical level in the course of translation. Meanwhile, the discussion about the challenges in the translation and unsolved problems is included in this report.This report consists of five chapters. Chapter one is task description, which involves introduction to the source text and the author, including requirements and standard for the translation task. Chapter two is process description, which deals with some steps during the translation, like preparation, while-translating and proofreading. Chapter three is the part to introduce the translation theory concerned – Catford’s Theory of Translation Shifts. Chapter four is the central part of this report – case study, which examines the major challenges in the translation and relevant skills and methods that the translator has adopted to solve the problems in light of Catford’s Translation Theory. Chapter five is the report summary, including some inspirations and the final conclusion of this report drawn from the case study as well as related thinking for further study on translation.
