Alice Munro is a famous Canadian short story fictionist, the owner of 2013 Nobel Prize in literature, and is praised as “Contemporary Chekhov”. Munro is good at writing living scenes including birth, death, illness and old age of common people. There are a lot of researches on her work, while there is few researches and discussion on Munro’s “death writing”. In addition, researchers have also paid attention to unreliable narration in her work, but there is no deep discussion research. This paper aims at making concentrated research on death writing and unreliable narration in death writing in Munro’s work, analyzing concrete operation and strategic effect of unreliable narration based on specific text, and excavating Munro’s deep meaning and thinking of death writing through the research of unreliable narration. In Introduction, this paper systematically summarizes and settles foreign research results of Alice Munro in recent years, and finds research object, method and innovation points on the basis. In Chapter I, this paper strategically discusses Munro’s death writing in specific way and this paper believes Munro’s death writing has focused on ordinary people’s daily death in city urban and based on the circumstance of Ontario,Canada, where Munro has been familiar with and at the same time, analyses the connection between Munro’s death writing with the history. In Chapter II, taking representative works in early, middle and late stages of Alice Munro’s description on death, this paper explores concrete type of unreliable narration in text at the same time of unscrambling diachronism change of death writing. In Chapter III, this paper explores special meaning and connotation of unreliable narration strategy in expressing death theme based on the wide application of unreliable narration in death text. This paper believes that, the conflict and tension between text and hidden text with unreliable narration will brightly show differentiation problem of narration object. This narration differentiation own internal consistency in showing essence of people, death and life, and has unique effect and function in criminal psychology and ethic aspect. This further shows richness and vagueness of Munro’s novels under her ordinary and plain writing.
