| On November 29, 2012, President Xi Jinping first put forward ‘China Dream’. Since then, it has attracted researchers in many fields including philosophy, politics, sociology, culturology, and journalism, etc. After the 18 th National Congress of the Communist Party of China, ‘China Dream’ has become the ideological symbol which carries the governing philosophy of the new central government. ‘China Dream’ is the dream of the whole nation, as well as the dream of every individual. In view of the above-mentioned facts, the present thesis takes reports on ‘China Dream’ as its study object and attempts to explore the phenomenon of interdiscursivity involved in China Dream discourse.Previous studies mainly focus on the connotations, functions and significances on ‘China Dream’, however, only a few researches have been carried out from the perspective of linguistics. Given this situation, the present thesis attempts to study the application of interdiscursivity in the construction and transmission of ‘China Dream’ from the linguistic perspective. First of all, the present thesis, through integrating Bhatia’s(2010) patterns of discourse realization in professional contexts and Cap’s(2014) proximization theory, proposes a new model for exploring interdiscursivity as a discursive strategy in the publicity of ‘China Dream’. Then, by applying this model, the paper analyzes different applications of interdiscursive strategy and their corresponding functions as well as the involved axiological proximization factors in the communication of China Dream discourse.Through the three-dimensional analysis, it is found that interdiscursivity, as a discursive strategy, is commonly used in the publicity of China Dream. Moreover, interdiscursivity in China Dream discourse is mainly manifested as the following four forms: blended interdiscursivity, embedded interdiscursivity, switched interdiscursivity, and chained interdiscursivity. Meanwhile, it is also found that interdiscursivity serves certain functions in the construction and transmission of China Dream discourse, namely, shaping good images of the government and the nation, drawing attentions, and functions related to discourse informalization and globalization. Finally, through analyzing factors influencing the transmission of ‘China Dream’, the thesis classifies them into two types: for one thing, there are factors influencing the publicity of China Dream discourse at home; for another, there are factors influencing the communication of China Dream discourse abroad. According to those factors, it is found that fixed reporting mode of governmental discourse and diverse media have respectively influenced the publicity of China Dream discourse at home. Meanwhile, the axiological differences as well as cultural and economic factors play a decisive role in the communication of China Dream discourse abroad. Then, in order to strengthen and improve the transmission effects, corresponding suggestions are also provided in the thesis. The analysis of the interdiscursivity in China Dream discourse can expand the scope of interdiscursive studies and thereby improve readers’ critical awareness. It is hoped that this research will not only provide a new perspective for the study of discursive strategies but also shed some light on the understanding and application of the interdiscursive strategy. |
