The present paper is a report on the translation of the novella Cuts written by Malcolm Bradbury. It is a novella of comic flavor. In a sense, the novella is a farce which is full of scepticism, irony and comedy. The farce expresses the writer’s attitude towards the society. The full text is about 32587 words, and translated independently.This paper makes a case study on the translation strategies of domestication and foreignization applied in translating Cuts.Firstly, the translation task is introduced in this paper, including the background,the main content, the preparation and analysis before translation, the translation strategies, the revise and the factors of translation. Secondly, the roles of domestication and foreignization in the translation of Cuts are illustrated, including the introduction of domestication and foreignization, the specific analysis on the translation strategies of Cuts and the representation of literariness in Cuts. A summarization on this translation is made in the third chapter, including the difficulties and the experience of this translation, the understanding of domestication and foreignization, the understanding of English culture and the characteristics of the comedic language and the understanding of literary translation. It is hoped that the experiences and the lessons can be drawn from the summarization.
