| The novel Criminal Lu Yanshi and movie Coming Home have aroused strong concern of the literary world and the film industry since theirs lanched, the most influential Chinese writer Yan Geling’s Criminal Lu Yanshi is referred to as subversion of her previous works, the movie Coming Home adapted from Criminal Lu Yanshi is also generally considered as one of the most anticipated films in Zhang Yimou’s later period. After a lapse of years Zhang Yimou returns to literary style and uses 4K High definition production effect for the first time in China, which make Coming Home get box office harvest, gain all kinds of film awards, and become a successful balance model between commercial and artistic. This adaptation is undoubtedly successful, but also inspires us to ponder: What are the differences for the same element from different perspectives in different art forms, and what is the underlying reason behind the differences? What are the filmmakers can learn from the further study of the wheezy topic of film adaptation for novel to make better film adaptations in the future?This paper is divided into three parts: Introduction, Text and Conclusion. In the part of Introduction, the achievements by novel Criminal Lu Yanshi and movie Coming Home is firstly introduced, and their research value is obvious; then the current research status of the two in recent years is listed; finally, the main research issues and perspectives are discussed.In the part of Text, firstly, the interpretation of the differences of female image and time element between the film and the novel are discussed, then the description of the female image and its reasons are explained, which is mainly from the different cultural backgrounds of Zhang Yimou and Yan Geling, and referred to the differences between their respective aesthetic pursuits, to analyze the causes of the differences mentioned above, finally the different methods of dealing with the "Cultural Revolution" are analyzed and tried to explain why, mainly from the perspective of human nature and history reflection as a starting point to try to explain their differences. In the Conclusion part, the enlightenments to the film adaptation by the analysis of the similarities and differences between Criminal Lu Yanshi and Coming Home on female image and time element is illustrated. From the comparison their thoughts on the two literary propositions—the "female" and the "Cultural Revolution" are revealed, and the real life experience of female behind male history is tried to be restored, to reveal the fact that females are not silent in history. |
