Liuqin Opera, featured by its vocal music and dialect, can be dated back to 200 years ago in Qing Dynasty. Nowadays, Liuqin Opera is entering into the stage without people to learn it. Through the education and inheritance of Liuqin Opera, more and more young people will be familiar with the local music culture and the government and school will pay more attention to the national music culture. Thus, the purpose of education and inheritance will be achieved. At present, mass media are developed at full speed with western,Japanese and Korean music being popular among people, choosing the opera which has been neglected and marginalized to step into the class is quiet difficult. Numerous problems emerged in the school-based curriculum practice have shown in the research. In the course of 200-year development, Liuqin opera as a kind of local culture in Jiangsu Province once was splendid and immensely popular among ordinary people. On 20 th May, 2006, Liuqin opera was listed in the first national nonmaterial cultural heritage list. However, as time goes by, although the government has paid attention to protect the local traditional arts, they are increasingly marginalized with the rapid development of recreational forms and the living standard. Furthermore, due to its own weaknesses such as obsolete musical contents and forms and being not understood and enjoyed by the young generation, the inheritance and development of Liuqin opera are not optimistic. How to protect and inherit Liuqin opera has become the hot topic at present. In this paper, through the action research, description of the demonstration process and practice cases in the selected school, effective forms, teaching contents, approaches and methods of education and inheritance of Liuqin opera in the primary school, middle school, university and communities have been presented. For one thing, on the basis of experimental experience, theoretical framework is preliminary established for the education and inheritance system of nonmaterial cultural heritage with local features. For another, study examples are provided for education practitioners to educate and spread local traditional operas. Meanwhile, this paper has provided a frame of reference for local educational administrative departments to guide the relative education practice and policy decisions.
