With the start of the global power shift from the West to the East, Asia Pacific is considered tobe of pivotal significance in shaping the contours of the changing world in the21stcentury.Given the fact that Asia Pacific is going to dominate the economic and strategic landscape in thiscentury, it is unsurprising that any superpower would try to entrench its stranglehold in suchregion. In this context, American decision to shift its focus to Asia Pacific, which is embodied inthe U.S. Strategic Rebalance to Asia-Pacific, is not hard to fathom. This strategy aims atdeterring other powers, particularly China, from behaving in a manner which can challenge theinterests and the leading position of the United State in the Asia Pacific. Nonetheless, looking athistory for any guidance, such shifts of focus of superpower from one region to another couldhave remarkable repercussions for the other major players in the region owing to the securitydilemma inherent in the international politics. The general theme of this paper revolves aroundthe U.S. decision to strategically rebalance to Asia-Pacific.In this context, the main research question of this paper will focus on the events and forceswhich led to the genesis of U.S. strategic rebalance to Asia-Pacific. The investigator willexamine the factors which led to the announcement of this strategy. To this end, the maincontention of the paper is that the US strategic rebalance to Asia Pacific is an embryonic grandstrategy which is designed to strengthen and perpetuate its dominant position in the Asia Pacific.While exploring the answer to the main research question, there are three significant factorswhich can explain this puzzle: the fundamental shift in power in Asia-Pacific, the risingeconomic significance of Asia-Pacific, and the rise of regional disputes in the region. Moreover,for the lucid explanation of this strategy, the paper will also shed light on the main componentsof this strategy; the prospects for the realization of this strategy and the inherent pitfalls germaneto the U.S. strategic rebalance to Asia-Pacific.
