An Empirical Research About The Supply And Demand Of Urban Home-Based Care Services

Due to the change of population structure, the shrink of household size and so on,traditional family endowment becomes unsustainable. Institutions for elderly also cannot bemassively expanded because of the high cost and resources shortage. In this case, theimportance of home-based care services and its development becomes increasingly prominent,and people also pay more and more attention to it. Home-based care services as a form ofservice relying on community by government and social forces to provide life care,housekeeping, rehabilitation nursing, mental care of services and so on for home-bound elders.Moreover, it is the concrete reflection of home-based care model.The study carries on questionnaire survey about the elderly home-based care servicesdemands and services received taking FD community in Qvjing City as an example.Combining the related literature and in-depth interviews with the elderly and community staff,the paper uses hierarchy of needs theory and social support theory to analyze and discusssome problems which involves the factors about the demand of the current elderly people inhome-based care services, the supply status of home-based care services, imbalance betweensupply and demand, and the supply-demand relationship.Through research it can be found that: First, the old people’s ideas determines thedifferent cognition and understanding about home-based care services. Individualcharacteristics, like cultural degree and economic income, and comprehensive socialenvironment affects their specific demands for home-based care services. Second, the supplyof FD community home-based care services focuses on services of leisure and entertainment;spiritual culture and health care service are at an earlier stage; life care services basic is blank.Third, the supply and demand of home-based care services is imbalance. The fact shows thatthe social support of home-based care services is limited and the expression of the elderlyneed is insufficient, thus it causes the mismatch and the contradiction between supply and demand, affecting the overall development of home-based care services. Finally, combiningwith local economic development level and home-based care services as a whole, on the basisof the theory of social support, from the government, community, family and personal fouraspects, the author puts forward countermeasures and suggestions which realize supply anddemand balance of home-based care services in our country, to provide the reference forimproving the development of the urban home-based care services in the same economiclevel.
