The thought of reification is the achievement of the critical thought of Marx. It runs through the same spirit from Marx’s theory o f alienation to his thought of reification, which aims to break out of the fetters of life. And Marx devoted all his life to eliminate the phenomena of reification in the social development and realize the human liberation. Western Marxist researchers have made theoretical changes according to the changing survival environment. The focus of the study of reification has been changed from the perspective of economy to that of culture and mentality, which opens up a new starting point for the study of reification. Time passed by and life changed. Our production conditions and living environment have been turned upside down, but negative impacts of phenomenon of reification in our development still exist. So it still has great significance to study the theory of reification. And it is a contemporary issue that we should find a new method to eliminate the negative effects of reification. There are a lot of debates on the relationship between Marx’s theory o f alienation and his thought of reification. According to the given situation, I attempt to understand and expound Marx’s thought of reification from double perspectives in this paper. Taking the theory of alienation as the early infancy of the reification theory, I want to make a study of the theory from the perspective of the alienation of commerce, which pays attention to both the logic of humanism and economic aspects. Based on the depth analysis of economic facts, it also focuses attention on the subjectivity. It always takes the real individual as the starting point and aims to realize the liberation and development of human. Compared with the critical humanitarianism, it seems that the criticalness of reification theory is not distinct. But it can provide a solid basis for the liberation of human. In addition, the ideological analysis of reification theory can be served as a reference for modern development.
