Research On The Strategies To The Cross-strait Cooperation On The Issue Of South China Sea

Recent year, neighboring countries on the South China Sea have increasinglyintensified the dispute over the sovereignty and resources of the south china seaRecently, conflict and confrontation have occurred occasionally. China ’s neighboringcountries use major powers to contain China. The South China Sea dispute present acomplicated, long-term, and the development trend of internationalization. There arean common understanding about the way of solving the South China Sea issuebetween the Mainland of China and Taiwan. Therefore, it is meaningful to discuss thenecessity and feasibility of cooperation in the South China Sea between the Mainlandof China and Taiwan.the South China Sea belongs to the Chinese people,both sides have anobligation to defend it. At the same time,because of its rich natural resources andimportant strategic position, the South China Sea have vital importance of thedevelopment on both sides of the Taiwan Straits. According to the trend of theInternational Law of the Sea,we will have a bigger say in the issue if the both sidesspeak with one voice. From the point of geopolitical strategy, the joint defence of theboth sides is necessary. Joint efforts on the South China Sea dispute between the bothsides of the Taiwan Strait will defend our sovereignty better.At the same time, cross-strait cooperation is also feasible. First of all, mainlandof china and Taiwan share a similar stance and policy toward the South China Seaissue, which is the Chinese has the sovereignty of the South China Sea. It is theemotional foundation of cross-strait cooperation in the south china sea. In addition,with the KMT return to power in2008, the relations between the Mainland andTaiwan has presented a good situation, which provides a historical opportunity forcooperation. Cross-strait cooperation in the south China sea issue is a complicatedproject, so we should follow the principle of “easy things first, step by step”. First,weneed to provide a communicating platform over the south China Sea, graduallyincreasing the depth and breadth of communication. Then we need to promote thecommunication in institutionalize ways, accumulating consensus, thereby graduallyincreasing cross-strait mutual trust, and ultimately promote cross-strait cooperation inthe South China Sea effectively.
