The more and more serious ecological problems have become an importantfactor to restrict the sustainable development of human society in the present world.To solve the ecological problems appear to be vital. Thus, humans begin toreconsider the relationship between human and nature, and realize the significanceof harmony between human and nature. Ecological consciousness is correctlyreflected on the relationship between human and nature,it is benefit to alleviatethe harm of human society caused by ecological deterioration, and promotesustainable development of human society. In this paper, on the basis of researchachievements at home and abroad to study the connotations, characteristics andcontents of ecological consciousness, to analyze the present situation of ourcitizens’ ecological consciousness. The thesis put forward the countermeasures ofimproving citizens’ ecological consciousness,hope to make a contribution for theconstruction of ecological civilization in our country. This paper is divided intofour chapters:The first chapter: the summary of ecological consciousness. Mainly includes:the meaning,the characteristics and the main content of ecological consciousness.The second chapter: the theoretical origin of ecological consciousness. Mainlyincludes: the Chinese traditional ecological theory; Marxist ecological theory;Western postmodern ecological theory.The third chapter: present situation of citizens’ ecological consciousness and itsanalysis. Citizens’ ecological consciousness has improved greatly in our country,but there are still some problems,such as poor ecological knowledge, weakecological consciousness,lack of the ecological protection awareness, etc. Thereason for the lack of citizens’ ecological consciousness in our country is analyzedfrom four aspects: the social and economic development, ecological civilizationeducation, legal system construction and non-governmental environmentalprotection organization.The fourth chapter: the approaches to cultivating citizens’ ecologicalconsciousness. Firstly, striving to develop the economy so as to strengthen the material basis for the ecological consciousness cultivation; secondly, improvingthe ecological propaganda education system; thirdly, perfecting the construction ofthe ecological legal system; fourthly, the leading cadres should play an exemplaryrole; fifthly, encouraging participation of the citizen in ecological practice; sixthly,non-government environmental protection organization plays a role.
