This paper concerns the implications of rising nationalism in the Chinese context. Is it particularly threatening to the state and international community? What are the factors causing its rise? This paper uses a mix of quantitative and qualitative data to help understand such important questions on an increasingly important topic. It finds that Chinese perceptions of how the West, specifically Washington, treats it has great potential to influence the movement going forward. It also finds that of all things, what China wants most is to be properly recognized. |
