The open source software developed rapidly and became very popular inthe past more than thirty years, which has been playing an important role inthe area of system applications.The open source software relies on individual’s contribution. Whetherthis model is efficient and sustainable is debated by many scholars.This paper tries to use economic methodology to describe how opensource developer obtains indirect benefit by intention analysis. Furthermore,it explains institutional change is the cornerstone of open source because thatdeveloper’s behavior could not be sustainable if open source system does notchange IPR. Meanwhile, institutional change is also the root cause of the factthat open source software could compete with commercial software in themarket. These reformations are the reason why the open source software could be developed better and better. |
