Study On McClellan’s Thought Of The Integrity Of Marxism

The integrity of Marxism has always been a basic issue of Marxism, the correctunderstanding of which is related to the correct understanding and mastering of Marxism.McClellan is a famous western Marxist. He has done a lot of researches on the Marx’sideas, life and the development of Marxism, which makes great contributions to ourresearch on Marxism. In the meantime, his research on Marxism also shows the holisticthinking of Marxism.We can clearly see through the research on major works of McClellan, he states theholistic thinking of Marxism from three dimensions, i.e. the integrity of the classicMarxism, the nationalization and integrity of Marxism and the modernization and integrityof Marxism. The classic Marxism is rich in content, and the integrity of its rich ideas canbe seen from the internality of the associated thoughts, the continuity from young Marx tothe mature Marx and the consistency of Marx and Engels. In the process of Marxism’snationalization, there are differences in German, Russia, China, Europe and America’sMarxist theories. These different theories all have their own national characteristics, but allshow the unity of the national particularity and the universality of the basic principles, theidentity of theory and aim, which also embodies the integrity of the nationalization.Though, with times changing, the different Marxist theories formed in the different timeshave the differences, they all show the integrity of the modernization in terms of thetheoretical kernel’s identity, inheritance of the ideas and the unity of the timescharacteristics and the basic principles.McClellan’s thought of the integrity of Marxism has the distinctive theoreticalcharacteristics, such as seeing the integrity from the continuity of the development ofMarxism, seeing the integrity from the nationalization of Marxism and the modernizationof Marxism. This kind of integrity of Marxism shows the relationship between part andwhole of every part of the theoretical system and Marxist theoretical system, what’s more,it also shows relationship between the part and whole of every country’s Marxist theoryformed in different periods of the development of Marxism and Marxism itself, whichmakes great sense to our correct understanding of Marxism, to holding a clear position, toexpanding the theoretical field of vision, and to conversing the model of thinking.It has a strong practical significance to understand the integrity of Marxism and therelationship between the openness and the integrity of Marxism. We can not only see the diversity of Marxism, but also the basic connotation and essential characteristics ofMarxism. On this basis and based on China’s national conditions, only when we insist onthe practicalness, openness of Marxism, can we develop and create the Marxism withChinese characteristics, making it serve the construction of socialism with Chinesecharacteristics.
