Study On The Social Security Of Migrant Workers In Suzhou

With the great development of China’s economy, more and more people changed their workplace from countryside to the cities whose household registrations are in rural areas. Although they work in the cities, they are not city people, but the agricultural population, we call them migrant workers. At the end of 2014, China’s migrant workers volume has reached 274 million people. Although they have made enormous contributions to the prosperity and development of our cities, they cannot get the equal social security rights and interests as urban residents and this prompting a growing number of contradictions and conflicts.This article used Suzhou city migrant workers as the object, urban and rural integration as the policy background, social security as the motif. Through the case investigation and literature research, the author do the systemic pectination and research on the social security problems of Suzhou city migrant workers, analyze its problem and dissect the intrinsic reason from the low insurance consciousness of migrant works themselves, policy guarantee, related public services provided, etc. Then found series problems, including low coverage on social insurance, low treatment of social insurance, low implementation of social security policy, low social assistance level, fewer opportunity to migrant workers’ children education and employment.By learning from the successful experience and achievement of other provinces and cities in the aspect of migrant workers’ social security system, the author suggest we must establish medical insurance, industrial injury insurance, unemployment insurance and pension insurance system which really meet the demand of the rural migrant workers, let them can defend their rights and interests with laws and gradually improve the system of social security of migrant workers.
