DNA database of China’s public security is a data sharinginformation system to store the DNA typing data from crime scene or criminaloffenders and related cases or offenders’ personnel information and to compare andquery remotely and rapidly, which is based on the combination of forensic DNApolymorphism analysis technology and computer network transmission technologyand large-scale database management technology. Our DNA database to be put intooperation since2005, after nearly a decade of development, database capacityincreases rapidly, continuously enhance detection efficiency, as of August31,2013,the total DNA database data to reach22.422million, the amount of data ranked first inthe world; Directly identified the number of persons involved in criminal cases were8.9million and the number of criminal cases were9.3million in2012; the matchingrate reached23.59percent when the DNA typing of biological material evidence putinto DNA database, and the matching rate reached1.41percent when the DNA typingof criminal offenders into. However, with the constant improvement of therule of law,the constant growing of civil rights awareness, some problems and risks ofour DNA database constantly revealed. For example, because of the lack of legislation, the legal status of our DNA database is fuzzy, collection ranges lack of a unified legalnorms, the preservation and destruction requirements of DNA typing data and samplesis missing, and there is a series of problems in data comparison、Information judged、cross-regional case information sharing when matching and other aspects in our DNAdatabase. The author of this article, who is a policeman working in DNA testing andpracticing in the application of DNA database in criminal investigation, analyzes thefuture of our DNA databases and offers some personal thoughts and suggestions basedon the application of DNA database in criminal investigation currently and comparedwith foreign developed countries.
