Competency-Based Selection For Gunners In The Infantry Fighting Vehicle

The selection of military personnel has epoch-making significance.With the development of science and technology, there is an upsurge in the study of military personnel selection, contributing to a high technology content in the area. On military having been transformed in China, more and more experts and scholars devote themselves to the research of military personnel selection, which has achieved periodical results. The research taking gunners in Infantry Fighting Vehicle as objects, has realized the first exploration of the gunners’competency and its selection. The research provides the army with both a more normative standard reference and a more objective method for the gunners’selection. The research overcomes the experimental shortcomings in traditional selection so as to guarantee the results more precise and objective. Addressing the combination of qualitative and quantitative in the research, the research uses the Behavioral Event Interview,Delphi method, Fuzzy Analytic Hierarchy Process and Fuzzy Synthetic Evaluation in order to obtain the Gunners’Competency Index through qualitative method and the model of selection through quantitative method.The main contents are as follows:1. The sources about Gunners are collected by in-depth interview with the help of Behavior Event Interview, and after we analyze the sources using the Grounded Theory,we come to the preliminary Gunners’competency. After the discussion with 9 experts for 3 times,we come to the conclusion that the Gunners’competency consists of 3 dimensionalities and 32 specific factors, while defining the factors and relevant behaviors.2. Taking advantage of Fuzzy Analytic Hierarchy Process and the improved Fuzzy Synthetic Evaluation,we establish the Selection model for Gunners.3. We apply the Selection model to the gunners’selection in some company, and the results are accepted by the leaders which fully tests and verifies the effectiveness of the model.
