Provisional Government of the Republic of Korea was established in Shanghai in 1919. It was located for 27 years within the mainland around China and it dissolved due to Japanese government surrendered to the allies in World War 2. Therefore, China is the crucial country regarding the history of the Korean independence movement. After Japanese annexation of Korea in 1910, large number of Korean citizens migrated to China in order to avoid Japanese colonial rule in Korea. Moreover, most of them actively joined in a campaign to achieve the independence of Korea from Japan. The provisional government focused diplomatic activities in China-in that the main bases of independence movement were distributed into a jurisdictional area around China, such as Manchuria and Shanghai.Korea and China have an historical similarity that can be found as both countries have undergone the Japanese imperialism invasion. Both countries have close geopolitical position as well as strong understanding of the diverse changes of international situation. Therefore, Korea and China could build the strong relations with each other. Each political party in China-such as Communist Party of China and China Nation People Party supported Korean independence movement and aligned an anti-Japanese struggle in accordance with their policy. Due to the fact that Korea and China had the same objectives which were anti-Japanese war and protecting their own countries, it was possible to build stronger relations based on a better understanding between Korea and China. With this alignment of the Chinese government, Korean independence activists could develop an ability to achieve independence from Japan and find the effective strategies to gain Korea independence. After Korea was colonized by Japan, the geographical meaning of "China" was important for Korean independence activists to not only establish provisional government of the Republic of Korea, but it also further expanded independence movement. The second Sino-Japanese war created changes with respect to the attitude of the two countries between China and provisional government of the Republic of Korea. After the Anti-Japanese War in 1937, Chinese nation-people party started to more actively support the Korean independence movement. The Communist party of China also aligned Korean independence movement and created close contact with provisional government of the Republic of Korea by’Anti-Japanese policy strategy of the National Unification’. This paper indicates the research about which Korea and China had positive interaction rather than restricted the relation between China and Korea during Anti-Japanese War.This thesis took the comparison of the Provisional Government of the Republic of Korea and China relations during the Anti-Japanese War (1937--1945) as the breakthrough point, focused on the establishing background of Provisional Government of the Republic of Korea at various stages during the Anti-Japanese War, its main activities in China, the similarities and differences of the Kuomintang and the Chinese Communist Party’s attitudes towards South Korean Armed Forces Act, the details and significance of Anti-Japanese cooperation between the Republic of Korea and China, etc. In addition, through the investigation to the relations between the Provisional Government of the Republic of Korea and China during the Anti-Japanese War, the thesis tried to let people rediscover the history of Korea and China against Japanese fascism, enhance the warming feelings and promote cooperation between Republic of Korea and China.
