This dissertation applies Geopolitical theory and Geo-economic theory as the basic theories to describe the strategic interaction between China and United States on Afghanistan and its neighboring countries. The combination and coordination of the two theories can explain the nature of China’s “Silk Road Economic Belt” and America’s “New Silk Road Strategy” to some extent. Traditionally, geopolitical theory paid more attention on military conflict and political confrontation of major regional powers based on land and space, while Geo-economic theory explains the cost and efficient of economic investment based on the advantages of strategic location. Afghanistan, as the hub, is vital both for China and US to implement its national geopolitical and Geo-economic strategy. The peace and stability of Afghanistan and its rebuilding in economic sense is important not only to China and US strategic success but also to the promising future of Central-South Asian economic and political integration. During the process of strategic interaction between the two major powers, both sides should seek for the common interests and build the new type of major power relations based on win-win situation and cooperation. The alleviation of geopolitical competition and stress of Geo-economic cooperation can be coordinated and achieve coexistence, it is beneficial for both Afghanistan and its neighboring countries.The dissertation illustrates China’s “Silk Road Economic Belt” and America’s “New Silk Road Strategy” in terms of their ideas and features and Afghan’s rational strategic choice based on the strategic interaction China and US. At the meanwhile, it discusses the feasibility of strategic cooperation between China and US on Afghan issues as Afghanistan plays a role as a hub.it also gives some specific suggestions on international regimes of cooperation between the two countries.
