The husband and wife inmarriage should have various kinds of liabilities and obligations, such as be faithfuland reliable to each other. However, with the development of the policy of reform andopening, there is tremendous change not only in the way of life, but also in people’sthinking, which reflects in the field of marriage and family the fact that some peoplebecome unfaithful to, or even deviate from the husband or the wife in their marriagelife. It is common to see the upward trend in marital unfaithfulness in the city as aresult of the people in the city undergone a speedy shift of ideas while it is notprevalent among people in the rural areas, especially in Northwest China. Byemploying the interview in the rural area in Northwest China, it could be found thatpeople in this area held higher faithful attitudes towards each other in the marriage.In view of this trend, from a sociological point of view, the researcher in thecurrent study analyzes rural marriage faithful problems to find out the reasons for thehigher marital faithfulness in the rural areas in Northwest China. All in all, there arethree reasons to explain an upward trend in the marriage. To begin with, it is theeconomic lag in the rural areas in Northwest China that directly results in a lower rateof martial unfaithfulness in the process of marriage. Just as every knows, extramaritallove affair is based on a grate deal of economic cost.Yet the fact is that rural economicconditions in Northwest China are not very good to afford extramarital love affair toproduce, thus which takes a solid foundation for the martial fidelity in the relationshipbetween husband and wife;The second reason to explain higher martial fidelity in therural areas in Northwest China is that people in these areas hold relativelyconservative attitudes towards martial relationship between husband and wife. Theyare inclined to persist in their choices once they have made up their minds over themarriage;The third reason for the upward trend in the martial fidelity is thatinhabitants in the village can have a better understanding over the role they play in themartial relationship and can better put their roles into practice in the daily life offamily, hence martial relations between male and female can work good under the protection of the classical ethical theory.After analyzing the current situation and the reasons of martial fidelity betweenhusband and wife in the rural areas in Northwest China, the researcher can arrive atthe conclusion that there is a positive correlation between martial fidelity and otheraspects of the construction of society, that is, a higher level of martial fidelity isbeneficial to building a more harmonious society. It should be pointed out thatalthough the overall trend in the Northwest Chins is optimistic and positive, there arealso some exceptions in martial unfaithfulness in the village. As a whole, the higherlevel of martial fidelity in the Northwest Chins is the result of relative backward inmany aspects, including economy, ideology, and culture and so on. With theincreasing development of all directions, the higher level of martial fidelity mayencounter challenges and threats. Therefore, it will be a new problem for the people inthe rural areas in Northwest Chins to maintain a higher level of martial fidelity in thecourse of society development.
