It is generally known that writing is one important skills students should be equipped with. However, thedifficulty in writing and the low efficiency of writing have been a problem in the process of English teaching.Meanwhile, seeking an effective learning strategy to improve students’ writing ability has been the focus formany English teachers. After scholars did many researches and conducted experiments on learners, Cooperativelearning model used in senior high school turns out to be an effective way to solve this problem.Cooperative learning, as a new teaching model, is widely applied in many countries. It is a kind ofpedagogical strategic system promoted by Slavin, Johnson et al. in the1970s in America, which encouragesstudents to perform all kinds of learning activities in group, emphasizes the student-centered class, in which theteacher plays a role of director, cooperator, supervisor, attempts to enhance teacher-student and student-studentinteractions and promotes students to learn sufficiently, enables students to work cooperatively. In cooperativelearning, students can be rewarded for the achievements or performance of the entire group for they help eachother to study some materials. Rewarding each group member reduces the pressure on the students and enhancesstudents’ initiative to finish assignments.Based on the successful experience of some previous researches, the author applied cooperative learning toEnglish writing in order to prove the feasibility and validity of the writing model by cooperative learning in No.1senior high school in Wanrong County. The experiment was conducted in two classes in Grade2and last5months. The experimental process included pre-test, experiment and post-test with a lot of data drawn fromquestionnaires, tests. After thorough analysis and comparison, the author has proved the feasibility and validityof cooperative learning applied to English writing in senior high school. The conclusion can be drawn as follows:(1) the writing mode under cooperative learning can arouse students’ interest in English writing;(2) the newwriting mode has improved students’ scores in English writing tests.There are still some problems unsolved and we need to make a further research to improve and develop thenew teaching process. However, we should not ignore the benefits of cooperative learning used in Englishwriting class and try to apply it into English class teaching.
