Here is the monographic study on Gao Shiqi and his connoisseurshipand collection of calligraphy and painting. This paper starts from thedescription of Gao Shiqi’s personal life, including his family, officialcareer and seclusion in Pinghu, by referring to the local records andhistorical documents. Then I do a comprehensive study in Gao’s socialactivities of painting and calligraphy by consulting his currentcollection of poems. Thirdly, this paper focuses on the discussion aboutthe content and historical reputation of Jiang Cun Xiao Xia Lu bycomparison. Finally, make an analysis of Gao’s calligraphy and paintingappraisal through his source of collections and research method and tasteof Dong Qichang.The collections of Gao was of great representativeness and favor amongthe Bureaucratic Scholar-bureaucrat at that time though few of his poemswas quoted. This paper aims to demonstrating Gao’s attractivepersonality as a literati by quoting Gao’s poems in the research.
