The synonym analysis is an indispensable part in English vocabulary teaching.Students’ master of synonyms can reflect their language ability. However, thelaborious and inefficient vocabulary teaching phenomenon is still widespread invocabulary teaching in junior high school. Students often spend a lot of time inremembering and distinguishing synonyms, but students are still be found mistakingthe use of those synonyms in some examinations and tests.Context theory is an important topic in language teaching and research. Thecontext theory was first put forward in1923by Polish anthropologist B. Malinowski.Then a lot of scholars did a large number of intensive researches on this theory.Results of researches on context theory can promote the foreign language teachingand learning.Based on the current situation of that there is no definite system in synonymsteaching. My research carries on through the following steps. Firstly, the textbooksare rewritten into electronic documents. Then the software named Antconc3.2.4isused to search the context of those groups of synonyms. The aim of this research is toapply context theory into synonym analysis teaching in junior high school. The authordiscovers that context language teaching method has a positive influence on synonymlearning. Thereby, the researcher hopes to find a high-effective method indifferentiating the synonyms and make more English teachers realize the importanceof English synonyms and that contextual theory plays an important part in vocabularyteaching. Furthermore, the author expects this study can also provide correspondingreferences for the innovation of vocabulary teaching.This paper is mainly made up of the following parts. The first chapter is theintroduction part. It mainly presents the background information, research purposeand methods. In the second chapter, it defines the main concept applied in this article,and also presents the theoretical basis for the study. The current research situation ofcontext theory at home and abroad and domestic research on the application ofcontext theory in vocabulary teaching are presented in detail. The third chapter introduces the design of the experiment, the research questions, the research objects,the experiment procedures and tools. The fourth chapter deeply analyzes theexperimental data collected in the process. The fifth chapter is the author’s analysisand recommendations. The sixth chapter summarizes the whole paper.
