English as an international common language in the process of the development ofmodern society’s position is self-evident. For today’s high school students, learning Englishwell is not only the embodiment of the individual learning quality, but also the necessarypremise and foundation of promoting the competitiveness of the society in the future. Butthe current situation of high school students’ English learning is not optimistic. In the basicstage, a good language learner and a poor language learner have showed a great deal ofdifferences in all aspects of English learning. This study tries to find the commoncharacteristics of outstanding language learners through the analysis and discussion oflearning strategies in English learning, motivation, attitude, habit, personality, etc. andcomparing the differences of practical ways between the good language learners and poorlanguage language learners, provide a reference for teachers’ teaching work later.The research employs EPQ to test students’ personality and SILL to test students’learning strategies. And as a result, the research is to explore the usage of learningstrategies of the outstanding language learners with different personality tendency. At thesame time, this study studies the case of excellent group and non-excellent group throughthe interview to find out the crux of the learning failures and put forward the improvementstrategies. The following are the findings.Good language learners in senior school often use learning strategies in whichcompensation strategies is used most and memory strategies is used least.Introversive students tend to be outstanding English learners.Outstanding English learners are more unstable in emotion, which suggests that thegood English learners may suffer much more psychological pressure in study.In psychoticism, boys with high grades gain the significantly higher marks than thenorm while girls with high grades show no significant difference.The extroversion and introversion of the good English learners show the significant differences with affective strategies.The emotional stability shows the significant differences with memory strategies,cognitive strategies, metcognitive strategies and social strategies.The psychoticism shows the significant differences with memory strategies.
