Recording to the history, basketball was introduced into China in 1895. It now has become the familiar sport to most of Chinese people. With the rapid development of basketball playing in China, China national men’s basketball team becomes well known worldwide. A number of Chinese top basketball players, such as Yao Ming, Yi Jianlian, Wang Zhizhi carry out their duties in the game and lead the China men’s basketball team to play an important role in the world basketball development. As one of the important positions in a basketball team, a forward can be seen as a connection between the inside and outside of the restricted area. Forwards can not only assist the penalty area, carry out to defend and rebound, but also help his teammates to assist attack. Meanwhile, forwards are able at any time to launch their own attacks alone. In today’s basketball arena, each forward in the team roles more obviously and effects the fate of the whole team. The author has been watching the China Men’s Basketball Team’s matches in the 30th Olympic Men’s Basketbal Games recently. By quoting literature, expert interviews, mathematical statistics and other research methods, the author has found out that our team has outstanding forwards such as Yi Jianlian and Zhu Fangyu and a number of outstanding good players, their heights and personal strengths are both enough to rival the world’s top teams to compete, however, in fact, the Chinese team has repeatedly behaved poorly. The reason, our forwards are lack of basic technical and tactical skills, it directly resulting in numerous mistakes, giving the opponent an opportunity to exploit.Firstly, depending on the theoretical aspects, the author has been working on the researches of the forwards’offensive and defensive skills during the Olympic matches. Following with the references of world’s best basketball offensive and defensive skills, such as those players from Europe and the United States, the author gives out his suggestion of how Chinese basketball forwards to improve their technical and tactical skills.According to the data of the 30’s Olympic Men’s Basketball, the results showing as following:1. The average height of Chinese basketball forwards has reached the level of outstanding worldwide players. However, the forward players age distribution is uneven, and there are also significant differences on weight among Chinese forwards and those overseas.2. Chinese basketball forwards scored less. The total shooting times were significantly less than their opponents. Especially, the two-point balls and the three-point balls were unstable. Even more, our shooting methods were quite unitary.3. The way of Chinese basketball forwards passing the ball to breakthrough was too unitary. Most Chinese players selected to breakthrough and directly layup. It directly lowers the score because this kind of breakthrough is easily to be plucked and the player hardly has a second chance to get the ball again. However, the Chinese basketball forward were good at creating the opponents’fouling after the breakthroughs and also well skilled in controlling.4. The Chinese forwards had a significantly gap in grabbing offensive rebounds comparing to the opponents. Further more, they were weaker in the rivalry. They had less records on both the average and total offensive rebounds counts.5. The Chinese forwards, comparing to their opponents, had less total assists and total steals, specially the total assists. Their performances were not as good as the group stage opponents. On the statistical sheet, they had a lower success rate, and the volatility was erratic.
