Abstract/Summary:
As we all know, English is increasingly paid great attention to in different aspects.English writing is an important form of language output. Writing, as the foundation of English learning, is also a key problem in the process of teaching. At present, English teaching in senior high school mainly depends on the traditional teaching method, which causes students to have high scores with low practical abilities to some degree.This research aims to explore the impact on writing teaching by using Retelling Method and tries to find an effective way to promote English teaching. It also aims to answer the following questions.1. With the help of Retelling Method in writing teaching, can students have obvious improvement in English writing proficiency?2. Can Retelling Method arouse students’ interest in English writing?The participants in the experiment are of 82 students from two classes in Grade 1 in No.4 Senior High School in Wafangdian. There are 42 students in control class and 40 students in experimental class. The experiment began from the second week of September to the end of December,2014. The Retelling Method is adopted in the experimental class to teach students writing. During the experiment, the author just told students how to use the method in the learning process. The students adopted this method in their English writing.The author gave students chance to practice in class and made students try to fulfill the task with the Retelling Method by themselves. However, in the control class, the students continued to write with traditional teaching method. The experimental period lasted for four months during which students finish questionnaires, pre-test, post-test and interview.The author did the scientific analysis of data under the help of SPSS software before and after the experiment. The research results show that in senior high school English writing teaching, with the help of Retelling Method, students have visible improvement in English proficiency and the method arouses students’ interest and changes their attitudes in English writing.
