Sports, as a kind of language and symbol, has a great value of culture and com munication, and also has a deep influence on national image. Driven by a number of c ommunication scholars, the study of sports and national image has become increasingly complete and mature, but most of the studies are analyzed with the perspective of "self", ignoring to analyze from the perspective of "the other". In fact, the influence of sports on national image is meaningful only when it is under the context of "the other". Have the whole world in view, the United States as the only superpower in the world, has an undoubted voice. As a result, the United States’ view of China’s sports has a conclusive effect to the images of Chinese sports and its implied China’s "other" image.Under this language environment, the author used the New York times as there search prototype, analyzed the U.S. media and its represented mainstream American values’ way to understand of the Chinese sports image, and from it, found out the difference between "self" image of the Chinese sports and China "the other" image. Trying to help Chinese social media more reasonable to treat the foreign media reports about China. And give a reference to the transformation of China sports system and foreign contact.Based on the collection of the sports reports of the previous Olympic Games from 1984 to 2012. Study it by the ways of quantitative analysis and qualitative a nalysis, including reporting quantity, reporting bias, targets of report. After this analysis, the author found that the New York times sports reports attitude to China sports was changed by the recent relationship between China and US and international situation.The New York Times can change the image of China sports by the way of change the quantity of reports, the content of reports and bias of reports, and finally, the image of China sports became part of China’s "the other" image.sports Olympic Games is closely related with the international situation and the relationship between China and the United States, reports in the Chinese sports image changes. In view of this, the author thinks that the New York times reported by changing the orientation, content and quantity, beyond the sports category, shaped different Chinese sports image, form the western building "the other" image of part of China. This paper is divided into five parts:the first part is the introduction, including the Problem introduction and rese arch significance; The second part is retrospect the relevant literature and introducing the theory of "the other". The third part is introduces the research methods, research object, research program and difficult and innovative point of the study; The fourth part is statistics the data and analyze the text of reports of the New York Times during the successive Olympic Games; The fifth part of this article summarizes the research question and puts forward of the further study direction.
