Questioning in classroom is a kind of teaching method, and is very common in English class, especially in English listening and speaking class. With the implementation of quality education in China, English teaching pays more and more attention to the students’ listening and speaking skills, and questioning in classroom is an important process to train students’ listening and speaking abilities. There are many benefits of questioning in classroom:(1) according to the teaching and learning situation, teachers can adjust the teaching methods and content, in order to improve students’ learning efficiency and quality;(2) students can pay attention to the class by answering the questions;(3) questioning can arouse students’ learning interests;(4) questioning can guide the students to obtain new knowledge;(5) questioning can improve students’ thinking level;(6) questioning can promote the communication between teachers and students;(7) questioning can improve students’ expression ability;(8) teachers can regulate students’ learning status;(9) students can find new problems actively. Questioning in classroom plays an important role in teaching, therefore, valid questioning study is very important. This study combines the junior middle school English teaching, and chooses listening and speaking class as the research object. My study aims to find the teaching problems existing in the junior middle school English class, and puts forward some effective strategies of asking questions. I adopt the combination of classroom observation and questionnaire method, making data statistics and analysis in three junior high school English listening and speaking classes in Tieshan first middle school of Huangshi in Hubei province, and reveals the characteristics of questioning in these classes in the following aspects:(1) the total number of display questions and referential questions;(2) teachers’ waiting time;(3) teachers’ feedback;(4) teachers’ questioning techniques;(5) the arrangements of students’ seats and distribution of teachers’ questions;(6) the forms of answering. The study finds that junior middle school English teaching still has a lot of problems: too many problems; Problem too easy or too hard; the teachers’ waiting time not enough, etc. These problems have seriously restricted the improvement of English teaching.Aiming at these problems, the author puts forward the feasible questioning strategy. Balzac thinks, the key that opens all science is undoubtedly asking. Students is the main body in the class, by designing questions of different levels, to fully mobilize students’ enthusiasm and initiative of learning English, teachers should organize more "student-centered" teaching activities, and break traditional EFL(English As A Foreign Language) class, which is dominated by teachers in boring class atmosphere. Questioning can promote interaction between teachers and students, and inspire students asking questions, to be free of the embarrassment state of “don’t understand, can’t say”.
