The research on teacher talk in English classroom teaching is an important part of classroom study. The teacher talks for connection and transition in classroom teaching plays a "lifeline" role for bring together the series of teaching content and involving students into the language environment. This paper, by way of literature review, classroom observation, questionnaire and interview, analyzes the features of teacher talk for connection and transition in English classroom teaching in junior high schools, focusing on pragmatic features, awareness of use and using situation. Research findings are as follows:the teacher talk for lead-in is extremely monotonous and simple, the awareness for cultivating comprehensive language use ability is devoid, and the importance of feedback is not attached to teacher talk. The paper proposes that improving the effectiveness of teacher talk and the ability to control teacher talk in classroom are conducive to transforming the classroom discourse into students’ learning motivation. The paper further clarifies that the analysis of the characteristics of teacher talk is of great significance in both theory and practice, in facilitating the development of language teaching, and better service to English teaching practice.
