The famous linguistic, Carrel(1983)said: “For most of the students, reading strategy is the most important skill in the English learning as a second language.” English is one of the three main subjects in the National Matriculation, while reading occupies the largest part in the whole paper. So the study of how to improve senior high school students’ English reading scores and develop their reading ability has arouse researchers’ attention in recent years, especially the research on the rural senior high school. How to improve the rural senior high school students’ English reading scores and develop their reading ability becomes a hot research topic.The famous linguistic, Williams put out the famous three-step English reading teaching approach according to the schema theory. The principle foundation is to link English reading teaching with the schemata which is build up in readers’ mind. Some scholars take effect on the study of the application of this teaching method on reading teaching for rural senior high school.The study choose 68 students of Grade 1 from Liangjia Middle School. The time is 9, 2014 to 12, 2014. One class of 34 students is the Experimental Group(EG), the other 34 students of one class is the Control Group(CG). The two groups have one test before the study. The research shows that two groups have an equal reading level. In the next four month, the EG is taught by the three-step English reading teaching approach. The control group is still taught by the traditional method.At last, the result of experiment shows that the reading scores in the EG have a larger and clearer improvement than that of CG. Furthermore, they have an obvious improvement in the reading confidence, interest, attitude and skills. The result of this study identifies the research problem that the three-step English teaching reading method can be used in the rural senior high school and have a good effect on the improvement of their reading scores and development of reading ability.
