With the continuous development of the society, the relationship between the regions become close increasingly. As the most widely used language in the world, English is a tool for the exchange of culture, economy and education. It is one of the ability to recruit staff in every country. As the main body of Vocational Education in our country, the secondary vocational education is to provide the society with a large number of skilled personnel and high-quality workers base. Therefore, it is very important for the students to cultivate English. However, at present, the phenomenon of silence in the classroom is becoming more and more prominent, which seriously affects the development of students’ career. It is an urgent task for teachers to break the silence in English class.Cooperative learning, as one of the most successful teaching reform in recent years, is a guiding ideology in the education of students as the center and group activities as the main teaching form. Using cooperative learning, it is helpful for the learners to communicate with their peers, to improve the classroom atmosphere, and to improve the students’ interpersonal skills, competition ability and cooperation consciousness. Based on the theory of cooperative learning, this paper uses the method of questionnaire survey, personal interview, experiment teaching method and observation method to study the teaching of experimental subjects for a period of four months. And then come to the conclusion: the application of cooperative learning theory is conducive to ease the students’ English classroom silence phenomenon.The full text is divided into five chapters. The first chapter describes the research background, purpose and significance. The second chapter introduces the literature review and the basic theory, expounds the domestic and foreign research status, and the related core concepts are defined. The third chapter is the research design, which mainly includes the research question, the research object, the research tool and the research procedure. The research results and analysis are mainly concentrated in the fourth chapter, through the analysis of the status of the students’ English classroom silence phenomenon in the cooperative learning, the analysis of the data analysis, the analysis of English teachers and students’ interviews, and the analysis of English classroom observation records. The last part of the thesis is the conclusion of this research and the teaching suggestion.
