Survey Of The United States "Graduate Education For The Project For Scholarly Integrity"

As the main force of the research team and country’s future researchers, Graduate students are shouldering the responsibility of the national scientific and technological innovation. Standardizing graduate students’ academic behavior and improving their scientific research integrity levels are beneficial for graduate students to develop the habit of independent thinking and for schools to create an atmosphere of academic integrity. Therefore,it is necessary to study the graduate students’ research integrity education. As one of the most developed countries in the world of higher education, the United States has a more mature system in graduate students’ research integrity education. In 2008, the Office of Research Integrity and the Council of Graduate Schools implemented “Graduate Education for the Project for Scholarly Integrity”, which improves graduates’ research integrity levels, and also spreads the content of responsible conduct of research. This paper researches on the background, content and implement, effect and characteristics, in order to provide some references for building our country’s graduate students’ research integrity education system.This paper researches on the components and implementation of “Graduate Education for the Project for Scholarly Integrity” by using literature method and comparative method.The main contents include background, guidelines, participants, goals, education content and implementation process. The paper analyzes the effect and features of “Graduate Education for the Project for Scholarly Integrity”.After research, we found the project has some problems, for example, the project is lack of universally accepted evaluation criteria. Nevertheless, some measures are still worthy of learning, and five references can be drawn on: To establish graduate research integrity website for sharing resources; To strengthen cooperation and exchange between institutions to promote the comprehensive development of research integrity; To integrate various methods to expend graduate education in research integrity; To strengthen the core leadership of the Dean of graduate school in graduate education in research integrity; To train graduate teachers for research integrity and to improve their level of research integrity.
