Education curriculum reform which aims to cultivate high-quality talents for the future in our country has been carried out for many years. In order to meet the needs of the curriculum reform, the teaching experiment of high school chemistry textbooks also has been implemented for a long time. With the development of productivity, science, and culture, more and more supplementary materials appear in the market. However, most of them do not follow the curriculum standards and are likely to be superclass, difficult, and large in amount. In order to improve the academic achievement, the students will be blind in using such material. As a result, the teaching content selected by the teacher often goes beyond the curriculum standards. Such phenomena undoubtedly heavy the burden of teachers as well as students.This essay analyzed the questionnaires among the junior high students in the city of Guiyang. Besides this, the curriculum standards for chemistry, exercises in the chemistry Book 1, the test paper for Book 1 and the content related with Book 1 in Academic Level Test are studied to give the chemistry teacher a hand when they are selecting supplementary materials.This essay includes the following five parts:In the first part of introduction, questionnaire is used to find out the situation of supplementary materials in use. Then, the research question is given. Literature research is also used to locate the background and the significance of the study.In the second part, the curriculum standards for chemistry and exercises in the chemistry Book 1 are analyzed with the consult of literature and documentary. According to the analysis, the features of the exercises are given. Moreover, the test paper for Book 1 and the content related with Book 1 in Academic level test are studied to make the features of the exercises more clear.In the third part, this essay offers a set of exercises suitable for the junior high students according to the basis of the research in part two and the content of chemistry Book 1. In addition, all the exercises are analyzed with empirical approach.The fourth part is conclusion and reflection. After the researches in part two and part three, conclusion and reflection were given.
