English vocabulary teaching is a key link in the process whether students can further improve their English ability and level. Suitable English vocabulary teaching approach can stir up students’ learning motivation as well as their inner interest in English study, so as to improve students’ English ability. However, traditional vocabulary teaching often uses mechanical memorizing, which leads to poor teaching and learning effects. In accordance with the new curriculum standards, it is imperative to change the existing English vocabulary teaching methods in high school. High school English teachers ought to teach English vocabulary from the perspective of application and the understanding of words’ deep meaning as well as their cultural implication and so on. All these new requirements urge high school English teachers to transform their identities from the center to the leading role, therefore, to truly achieve student-oriented, teacher-directed high school English class.In order to prove the effectiveness of task-based vocabulary teaching theory, this paper is carried out under the guidance of task-based teaching theory, using different kinds of empirical study methods including test,questionnaire and interview and so on. The author chooses two classes with the same English level, one as the experimental class, which adopts task-based vocabulary teaching method, the one as the controlled class, which uses traditional vocabulary teaching method. To ensure the effectiveness of the data, both a pre-test and questionnaire are performed in the experimental class as well as the controlled class. After one semester’s different teaching, a post-test and questionnaire are conducted in the experimental class. After analyzing the data, it can be found that experimental class overwhelms controlled class in English vocabulary and English ability. The results of questionnaires reflect that most students in the experimental class has not only accepted task-based vocabulary teaching method, but also benefited a lot from it. Through interview, the author knows that students in the experimental class show great interest in task-bask vocabulary teaching. In the study, the author tries to find out the possible problems both in students’ vocabulary learning and in teachers’ vocabulary teaching through data analysis, and summarize the factors influencing English vocabulary teaching design, put forward certain strategies, and summarizes the influencing factors in task-based English vocabulary teaching design and gives corresponding strategies. The author also provides some kinds of tasks and teaching cases for discussing and referring to.With the continuous promoting and deepening of Chinese education reform, the advantage of task-based teaching theory applied in high school English vocabulary teaching and studying becomes increasingly apparent.This research shows that task-based English vocabulary teaching method plays a significant role in high school students’ English vocabulary mastery, especially in the long term teaching practice.After the task-based English vocabulary teaching and learning, high school students tend to grasp more words and phrases.In addition, students’ learning interest and learning confidence are highly boosted.In a word, task-based English vocabulary teaching method is worth promoting.
